Jonathan Saint-Jean, 27, a language student from Thiotte, Haiti. Jonathan arrived in the U.S. on Nov. 11, 2014. “The subway is extraordinary. When I arrive at big stations like Atlantic Avenue, I feel like, Wow, the people who made these stations are geniuses, with all the different lines meeting in the same place. I think that if one day the system fails, the city will have a huge problem.” Jonathan was photographed by @jr, who prints large-scale photos of his subjects and pastes them onto rooftops, edifices, shipping containers, streetscapes and more. For #nytweekender, we’re sharing some of @jr’s portraits of recent immigrants in #NewYork, shot for #NYTMag. On Thursday, the oversize images were pasted throughout the five boroughs. Hint: You can find Jonathan’s portrait on West 18th Street near 10th Avenue in Manhattan. Share your photos with the hashtag #WalkingNewYork.
