Hani and his little brother are two of 50 million refugees in the world today -- the highest number since WWII. When they escaped from Syria, Hani took one thing with him: his high school diploma. “If I am not a student, I am nothing,” he says, recalling how he risked his life every day on his way to school. Most refugee children can’t continue their education and live in limbo for an average of 17 years. That’s a huge waste of potential, says Melissa Fleming of the UN’s refugee agency. “The victims of war can hold the keys to lasting peace, and it's the refugees who can stop the cycle of violence."
