Male Pacific walruses like our friend Dozer are characterized by their considerable bulkiness, capable of weighing over 4,400 pounds. Their other defining feature, ivory tusks, are long upper canine teeth that will continue to grow throughout their lifetime. Walruses will use their tusks to fight off predators, compete for mates, move ice to create openings to dive through, and to help pull themselves out of the water and onto rocks or ice.
