This speckled beauty is an Amazonian monkey frog I photographed @centrojambatu. The distinctive fringe on this species’ legs is a form of camouflage, breaking up the outline of the frog so it looks like part of a leaf or lichen growing on a tree. Little is known about how this species behaves in the wild, but we do know that they have evolved to breed in small cups of water that form in the hollows of trees, allowing them to stay high up in the forest canopy while other frogs must venture to the forest floor in search of pools and streams.
