Happy #MothWeek! This small elephant hawk-moth is just one of about 160,000 moth
species known to science. Found throughout the world, moths are important indicator species, meaning that their numbers in any given area can tell researchers if an ecosystem is doing well or if conditions are deteriorating. They are also important pollinators for a variety of plants including orchids, and due to their abundance, they are a vital part of the food chain for both bats and birds.
