Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne lived and worked together for over five decades in Ury, a village near Fontainebleau in France. The natural world that surrounded their atelier provided constant—and seemingly limitless—inspiration, and their home became an extension of their art.

This October, #SothebysParis will offer the last pieces remaining in their private collection, including some of the artists’ most iconic designs as well as lesser-known and unique creations. Just rediscovered in Ury, the treasure trove had remained hidden in a separate room in one of the buildings that made up their home, behind a door concealed by large bronze bulls—one of François-Xavier’s largest and heaviest creations.
