Photo by @paoloverzone | This is a detail of two seated royal colossi in quartzite (second pylon) at the funerary temple of Amenhotep III in Luxor, Egypt.
This temple was a grand monument built in ancient Egypt during the 18th dynasty. It was dedicated to Pharaoh Amenhotep III and served as a place for his worship and posthumous glorification. The temple complex featured multiple structures, including massive pharaoh statues, a colonnaded court, and several shrines and chapels. Though much of the temple has been destroyed over time, significant restoration efforts have been made by a team of German-Egyptian researchers led by archaeologist Hourig Sourouzian to preserve what remains of this impressive architectural wonder.
