Best exemplified by ‘Les Demoiselles d’Avignon’, the origins of Picasso’s Cubism and Modernism fundamentally rested upon the aesthetic appropriation of Black African and tribal culture. Radically circling back to this premise as an African American artist a century later, Taylor reclaims the Black subject as his own, thus making the project of appropriation “Black again,” as the title suggests.
