Javan common palm civets like this one @taman_safari are known for being nocturnal, arboreal, and mostly solitary. It is believed that their preference for nighttime activity developed as a way to avoid predators that are active during the day, allowing them to move more freely and without fear. Similar to cats, they hunt their prey by stalking from a distant hiding place and pouncing. They are also excellent climbers, but they lack a prehensile (grasping tail), which means they must move slower and physically grasp onto branches as they pass from one tree to the next as jumping is not an option.
