Found in the eastern Mediterranean region, Caspian turtles like this one @epaa_shj prefer to take residence in permanent bodies of freshwater, but in a pinch, will settle for temporary waters like irrigation canals. Turtles that find themselves in a body of water at risk of drying up will bury themselves in the mud and aestivate (remain dormant) to survive hot and dry summertime conditions.
