More backyard testing of the new RED V-Raptor on the cooperative nuthatches! I don’t think most people realize how important slow motion is to bird filming, so I put together this little sequence so you can see how much difference it makes. Clip 1: shot at 24 fps - the bird is just a blur. That’s actually how fast they are in real speed. But that’s the normal speed we film people and stuff at. Clip 2: shot at 240 fps. This is 1/10 speed. Clip 3: shot at 480 fps. This is 1/20 speed so every second of real time is 20 sec of footage.
With previous cameras, I couldn’t shoot over 120 fps at the 4K quality that is now standard in wildlife filming with a versatile, portable camera. So I think you can see why this is an exciting development in camera tech.
Follow the great new feed of the Wildlife Society of Filmmakers @wsfilmmakers to see more of this camera in action, and @reddigitalcinema to learn more about the camera.
