The BBC’s new series “The Mating Game” is now out, including the Jungles episode, which features the sequence on the Argus Pheasant that I shot in Borneo with my team with over two years of camera trapping effort. It’s a real honor to have Sir David Attenborough raving about this marvel of the bird world that’s he’s been keen to film his whole career in this interview for the BBC. It’s also been a dream of mine to capture this rare display, so it’s very exciting to share this with the world.

After I made three trips to Borneo’s Gunung Palung National Park to set up and monitor camera traps at Argus Pheasant courts in 2019, team members @waysusanto and Darmawan (seen in the BTS clips) kept the cameras running for over a year during the pandemic. Not only that, because I couldn’t get back to Borneo due to the pandemic, Wahyu (@waysusanto) spent 40 days in blinds to try to shoot some closeups, and got just one day when the male came and he nailed it. You’ll see how his shots complete the story when you seek out the show on BBC Earth wherever you are to enjoy the whole sequence.
