This is the final part of a three part series about animals that travel long distances regularly in or through Canada.⠀ ⠀ 💚 Semipalmated Sandpiper: As one of Canada’s smallest shorebirds, the Semipalmated Sandpiper is easily recognizable with a short neck, long legs, and a thin bill. Found in central and eastern Canada, particularly in late summer, they travel in enormous flocks, sometimes totalling over 200,000 birds. They form a spectacular sight as the change direction in flight, creating a mesmerizing effect. During migration, this bird often flies in large flocks over the Atlantic to South America - a nonstop journey spanning over 3,000km (1,864m)! ⠀ ⠀ 💛 Whooping Crane: This endangered species is the tallest bird in North America, standing almost 1.5m tall with a two-metre wingspan. With a pure white body and tail, the Whooping Crane can be identified by its bright red crown and black ‘moustache’, wingtips and legs. Throughout the summer the original flocks of Whooping Cranes nest in Wood Buffalo National Park, located on the Alberta-Northwest Territories border. They then migrate to the southern US for the winter months!⠀ ⠀ Are you a keen birdwatcher?
