One of the rarest species of fish in eastern North America, the Barrens topminnow is found in just a few localities in Tennessee. Since the mid 1980s, @conservation.fisheries, where this photo was taken, has been working to save this species by maintaining arks and breeding three separate, genetically distinct populations. Reintroduction efforts by a number of organizations are currently underway, but constant monitoring and continued efforts will be essential for the survival of the Barrens topminnow. #barrens #topminnow #endangered #fish #conservation #PhotoArk #savetogether
