I’m entirely self-taught, which means I’ve messed up a whole bunch and have come up with a lot of different ways to teach myself new skills. In my opinion, one of the most essential skills for an artist to nurture is patience. I used to rush through drawings because I was so excited to get them out on paper. The result was that my drawings didn’t improve, because I wasn’t allowing myself to take the time required to put in my best work and really give it my all. My drawing skills only began to improve when I made the conscious decision that if I was going to do this, I was going to take the time to do it to the best of my abilities. Patience was never originally a strong suit of mine, so I built up my patience slowly by doing small drawings of small objects. I chose things that would take much time, like a quarter or an acorn, and allowed myself limitless time to draw them to the very best of my ability. The results were tiny drawings that technically outstripped my previous larger drawings by a long shot. Eventually, and with the pleasure of my drawing skills improving to fuel me, I drew larger and larger with the same mindset I utilized for the tiny drawings. These tiny drawings are where Sakura’s teensy-nibbed MICRON pens really came in handy. I primarily used, and still use, their 005 and 003 sizes, which are insanely small and absolutely perfect for minuscule details, fine hairs, or making an itty-bitty drawing as perfect as possible. #pigmamicron #gellyroll #sakurakoi #blackwork #inkdrawing #drawing #wildlife #fox」2月18日 9時01分 - sakuraofamerica
