The thing I miss most from pre-pandemic times is being able to travel internationally for residencies. Last year I did one residency in Iceland and two in France, and they were such influential and transformative experiences! Residencies are fantastic not only for the solitude, peace, and time you get for your work but also for the connection and idea-sharing that comes from sharing a space with fellow international artists.⁠ ⁠ This drawing, The Giver, was inspired by my time in France. I went to a lot of museums and galleries and was enchanted with the beautiful and delicate way sculptors portrayed hands; as if they were alive and caught in a moment of motion. I brought a sketchbook and my MICRON pens by SAKURA with me to museums, and sat and sketched in the Louvre, the Musee D’Orsay, and many others. I really like using my larger MICRON pens for quick sketching; usually size 03 and up.
