All of the statements above are true, at least some of the time, but a lot of people think they are true all of the time. Fasting is dangerous for your body when you do too much of it… It’s called starvation. Fasting can be a type of dieting if you are doing it instead of a less effective diet like counting calories, but that’s not the main benefit of fasting. Some fasts are better than others *for you*. And women often don’t do well fasting some of the time, but love it at other times.

1. Fasting regulates your insulin levels and triggers biological processes that actually slow aging called autophagy. Fasting also improves stem cell regeneration.

2. True fasting is flexible, it makes your body stronger, and it turns off cravings. It doesn't have to be a type of diet. It’s timing.

3. Your genetics, your age, your fitness level, and how tired you all predict which fasts are better than others for you right now. Doing it the same way every day rarely is the best choice.

4. What is true is that women’s bodies react differently to fasting. So you probably will end up fasting on a different schedule and in a different way from men. There’s less fasting research for women, but there's enough to know what to do.
