Salmeh in broken English, me in ruinous Arabic, mostly listening to the silence and the "maah's" of his goats. Everywhere in this ravine were petroglyphs. I consider such carvings part of the earliest form of journalism, the New York Times and Corriere della Sera' of the day, publishing on stones over 8000 years ago. Through this wadi, our ancestors began to walk some 60,000 years ago. In many ways, we are hardly different from when we started our human migration from lands further south in what today we call the Horn of Africa. Our primary distinction is the borders we've created since, dividing us. When we neared his encampment, a family of bedouins who prefer to live in nature, not the cities in southern Jordan, Salmeh's wife called out. He stopped briefly to listen, but the herd was too loud by their moving footsteps. In this natural cathedral, the sun spread near shadowless light inside the ravine and worn hills. At that moment, I felt timeless along the highway of our human existence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ from the @natgeo story #BlessedCursedClaimed @outofedenwalk #jordan #WadiHafeer #wadi #ravine #valley #goats #fromthearchive」12月28日 12時43分 - johnstanmeyer
