When confronted with an authoritative figure we instantly know and feel that their energy is above and beyond our own and therefore shrink to become beneath them and fall into place and role accordingly. The problem being that being “better” than somebody often leads to those “beneath” feeling less of a person which is seen heavily in families with rich or successful parents - children are born helplessly unable to fill their shoes and as a result of this feel like they are always failing to achieve their parents approval or meet their expectations so they believe they are never good enough in life, forever stress, struggle under pressure and feel emotionally negative and drained. On the other hand, those who do not have enough authority and fail to have structure in life easily slip into stagnation and never feel the need to try or strive for improvement because of the absence of encouragement. Personally I find that nurturing, encouraging and including others is the best way to build happiness and success for all - in a nutshell you can be successful without being a cu^t about it. You can build people up instead of tearing them down, be authoritative without tyranny, inspirational and motivational without being condescending and self assured and assertive without self obsession.
