Datable to about 1506, this richly hued devotional picture is one of the few instances of collaboration between Mariotto Albertinelli and Giuliano Bugiardini. Painted in the wake of the remarkable innovations of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Fra Bartolomeo and Raphael, ‘The Virgin and Child with the young Saint John the Baptist and an angel’ is a fine example of painting in Renaissance Florence.
