A rare woman who influenced interiors in an almost entirely male-dominated era, she was the only one to work side by side with Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé and Pierre Jeanneret, and counted Fernand Léger and Alexander Calder among her friends. By the age of 22, her work had been included in the Exposition International and her wall hangings were in Paris’ Galeries Lafayette. All of this she achieved through sheer force of spirit. In Paris on 24 November, we will be offering a group of unique pieces that have all been in the same collection since acquired from Perriand in the early 1970s. They come from a completely contemporary private dwelling in the countryside of Toulouse, designed in 1970 by Pierre Debeaux. The star lot is an 'Éventail' table, crafted in a sleek and beguiling ‘fan’ shape from dibétou wood, which has been kept in the vast library at the centre of the house. Only one other model is known, its prototype, a personal piece that was crafted for Perriand’s own chalet. Perriand had no intention to reproduce this sculptural masterpiece, and only agreed after an in-person visit by the owner to persuade her.
