I think we can all agree that whilst we've had very different experiences this year, it's been challenging for all of us. But apparently true happiness lies in being able to ride the waves through the storm. In being able to enjoy the journey, and not just the destination. In enjoying the present, and not getting consumed with worrying about the future. 🤸🏼‍♀️ I've been working on my own sense of happiness recently, even working with a happiness coach @the_happiness_society (she's actually studied the science of happiness), and I thought I would share some of the things I've found fascinating. Did you know that our happiness is 50% genetic, and only 10% from our circumstances? That means contradictory to what we are told, a bigger house, a promotion, a relationship / marriage, more money, material possessions can only make is 10% happier, and only for a short period of time. It's scientifically proven! And 40% of our happiness can be achieved for all of us through practice and changing our mindset. How awesome is that? 😁 Here's a couple of the things we can do to be happier: 💆🏼‍♀️ Breathe! Yup, I know, who knew? But breathing properly for a few minutes a day and focusing on that can reset our stress levels and bring calm. 🙏 Gratitudes. Writing down what we are grateful for every evening retrains our brain to see the beautiful moments and become glass half full people. And guess what? Obtaining your "perfect body" doesn't bring you any more happiness. But I'll get onto that another time. Being happy isn't about suppressing or hiding negative emotions, it's about being able to feel them and then let them go quickly. It's about learning to feel pleasant emotions and holding onto them a little longer. 🦋 The other day I went to the british seaside, and usually I'd have been consumed with the awful weather and wishing I was on a hotter beach somewhere. But this day, I put on a colourful outfit, enjoyed the warmth of the sea, appreciated the company I was in, and marvelled in the colourful beach huts. It was a happy day, my mindset just had to learn to see that it was. 😁✨🤸」8月20日 6時02分 - ashleylouisejames
