Photo by @stephen_matera A small creek runs through an ice cave beneath the Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau Icefield, Alaska. As the Mendenhall Glacier retreats, it creates ice caves. The Mendenhall has retreated 1.75 miles (2.8 kilometers) since 1929 and continues to retreat. The ice is hundreds of years old at the terminus of the glacier and absorbs all wavelengths of light except blue, giving the glacier its incredible blue colors.
