Photo by Prasenjeet Yadav @prasen.yadav One significant aspect of living and working with local communities is that you become a part of their challenges as well as their celebrations. Over the last two years I spent many months in the Himalaya working on a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. During that time I had the opportunity to participate in many local festivals. It's fun to hear the stories behind the origin of a particular festival, as well as its relevance and purpose. Honestly, most of my mind space was consumed by the story I was working on due to the self-imposed pressure to do a fine job. But now that I am away, all these peripheral but intimate experiences are what keep coming back to my mind. These are the things that I miss—the people, the laughs, and the cold. This was one such celebration on a winter night. I hope things will get better soon and we will once more be able to have such intimate celebrations in our new normal.
