I am excited to bring you images and stories from this part of the world. This village is on the way to my field site in the upper Himalaya, where I worked on a story about snow leopards. It's easy to spot its most iconic feature, Key Gompa—a Tibetan Buddhist monastery on a hilltop next to Key village—at an altitude of more than 4,100 meters (13,450 feet) above sea level. The monastery is over a thousand years old and accommodates nearly 250 monks who reside there for religious training. In the foreground of this photograph, you can see some villagers clearing the rooftops and solar panels of their homes after heavy snowfall. With ambient sunlight, solar panels are installed in most houses in these remote villages. Over the years, I have seen so many snow leopards around this monastery that this view is what comes to my mind when I think of snow leopard habitat.
