Painted around 1758, this unfinished work by John Hamilton Mortimer is the earliest recorded self-portrait by the 18th century English artist. Executed when he was just 18 years old, the painting provides great insight to the working practises of the young artist, who, along with his great friend Joseph Wright of Derby, went on to transform the British art scene in the 1760s and 70s. -
Very rarely offered at auction, this fine example of Mortimer’s work consigned by @libson_yarker gallery is being offered in The Dealer’s Eye, two online auctions which features over 100 works selected by some of the world’s leading Old Master and 19th century gallerists. -
