My story doesn’t matter right now.

As a white person, my story doesn’t matter. My own journey to “wokeness” doesn’t matter.

My only job right now is to be a true ally, and that has nothing to do with me.

It is too easy to post to Instagram without action behind it, it becomes all too easy to elevate ourselves and center ourselves in a conversation that has nothing to do with us.

I am going to continue to listen, to learn, to unlearn, to donate, to make the calls, to understand my own privilege, to teach my daughter.

My story and my emotions have a place, but not here. My story and my emotions do not matter in a conversation about black lives. “Don’t make us swim through your tears while we fight.” @ijeomaoluo
