And I want to discuss it because I GET IT. In the couple of years approaching thirty I lost my mind. I felt I wouldn't be relevant anymore in my career, I felt like I was still too young to be 'that old', I didn't own a house, and I wasn't in a relationship. At school we'd make pacts with friends that if we weren't married "by the time we were 30" we'd marry each other. As if 30 was the cut off point, and for me, even the dude I made that last resort pact with was married. 😂 In my early 20's we'd joke about how women in their 30s were desperate if they were single. I can't believe how we used to speak. We hear about people being 'past their sell by date' or 'left on the shelf', and these patriarchal attitudes are so ingrained into us I'm not surprised we're terrified. I also genuinely believed women's hair didn't grow long after 30 (I think because I remember my mum having short hair 😂). It took me two years of lying about my age when people asked me, because I couldn't bear to hear the sound "thir-" coming out my mouth. "I'm 29" 🤥 But now at 33, I'm here to say that I'm happier now than I was in my 20's. We're still so young: the average life expectancy for the UK is 81. I'm young, but I've figured out more of my shit, I surround myself with less drama. I know who I am, Ive finally learned to like my body, and I know how to dress it. I've finally figured out how to not care what people think... I wish I didn't waste so much of my 20's trying to convince not very nice people to like me. I've got less friends, but the ones I have are golden. I get more excited by the little things, and my experience has made me a more empathetic person. I might have to pluck out hairs from random places (WTF?), but I wouldn't change it to be back in my 20's. I hope that helps you embrace the new, unavoidable chapter! 💁🏼‍♀️❤️ #30 #turning30 #dirtythirty I'd love to know what your misconceptions about turning 30, or women in their 30's were?」5月29日 2時00分 - ashleylouisejames

Let's talk about turning 30... 💁🏼‍♀️
I get a lot of messages all the time from people (usually always women) freaking out because they're nearing thirty, and they haven't achieved nearly as much as they 'should' have. And I want to discuss it because I GET IT.
In the couple of years approaching thirty I lost my mind. I felt I wouldn't be relevant anymore in my career, I felt like I was still too young to be 'that old', I didn't own a house, and I wasn't in a relationship.

I'd love to know what your misconceptions about turning 30, or women in their 30's were?
