After this moment, these pieces transition into icebergs on their way into the sea. Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacier in southern Iceland, is an outlet glacier commonly referred to as a tongue of the much larger Vatnajökull. These pieces can range in size from as small as a few feet in length to well over hundreds of feet high. To have a better sense of scale, this picture was taken from around 1,200 feet (365 meters).
