I lie smugly a few hundred meters above, taking in the view as the morning sunlight thaws out my fingers and toes. Around the bend and out of sight, trekkers slowly scramble up and down the weaving trail leading up Gokyo Ri, a lookout point 500 meters (1,600 feet) above Gokyo, with views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
