Arzana is a village in the Gennargentu mountains of Sardinia, a region famous for being a Blue Zone, one of the six areas in the world with the highest percentage of centenarians in good health. This picture is part of the latest issue of National Geographic magazine, dedicated to the future of medicine. Working on this story, I’ve learned that longevity is not only linked to our genetic heritage but also to the quality of the environment in which we live, the food we eat, and, not least, to the social well-being that derives from being connected with our own community.
