The dragon pattern was once the exclusive symbol of the emperor in ancient China. In renowned couturier @guopei designs, dragons are often used to express women, and symbolize their power, independence and charm. Notable for its arched body and lowered forearms - as if preparing to pounce - this exceptionally rare gilt-bronze dragon is one of only three other examples of this dragon that appears to be recorded. On offer from the renowned collection of Stephen Junkunc III in our Junkunc: Arts of Ancient China II auction on 10 September, visit our York Avenue galleries today to view this work and more highlights from our upcoming Asia Week NY auctions alongside Guo Pei’s exceptional designs.
