Photo by @lucianocandisani ( Luciano Candisani ). The West Indian manatee (subspecies of Florida Manatee) seeks the protected waters of estuaries and mangroves in the north and northeast costs of Brazil for feeding and breeding. The hunt took this species near of extinction, but today the main threat to the small population remaining in Brazil is the destruction of the mangroves. This photograph I did in Tatuamunha river in Alagoas. I have been following the history of conservation of this species for fifteen years.
