It remains the most spectacular place that I have ever travelled to and the photographic opportunities there, to me at least, are unrivalled. Nevertheless it always amazes me just how different it can be at the same place over different years and how ones work can shift seismically in what I’m able to produce. This year for me it was about close ups and bear cubs. As I’m still downloading I haven’t yet gotten around to all of the bear cub images that I captured but rest assured, they will be appearing soon! For now however let me introduce Scarface, undoubtedly the biggest bear that we encountered on our trip, a massive male in the prime of his life, an occupier of the best fishing spots and a bear that, when he make direct eye contact with you, leaves an indelible impression. Massive thanks for this image go first to my good mate @mark_cale for the loan of his mighty @nikoneurope 800mm F5.6 lens, a sensational prime lens that enabled me to produce this dynamic close up. Thanks also to @nikoneurope for a loan of the Nikon D5, one of a number of pieces of equipment that they were kind enough to loan me for this trip. At this particular location there were a number of rocks in the river that could, when included in an image, cause unnecessary clutter and so, using a massive focal length combined with an appropriate amount of depth of field (F11) I was able to exclude all extraneous distractions and focus the images attention on this magnificent apex predator. I’ll be releasing the dates and prices for next years’ Kamchatka tour shortly and as I’m expecting the trip to sell out quickly, given the amount of interest so far already, I’d be quick about expressing your interest in this sensational trip. You can email me at tours@andrewparkinson.com to get more details. The response from my group this year was emphatic with all shooting more images on this trip than they had on any previous trip, a testament indeed to the magic and majesty of Kamchatka.
