Undoubtedly among the foremost British painters of his generation, Freud’s work embodies the sensational powers of observation and masterful control he had over his subjects. Swipe to see a tightly composed portrait of a young boy from 1956 - a remarkable example of portraiture executed when the artist was just 34 years of age. A tremendous tribute to the sitter, the late Honorary Garech Browne, ‘Head of a Boy’ appeared on the market for the first time this March when it sold for £5.8 million.
