Today, on the 104th year of remembering, I am always drawn by an intense feeling I had at this locomotive depot...the Akhuryan station in Akhourik, Armenia. It once was a symbol of peace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t know much about trains but I did notice the narrow gauge track...narrow gauge is used in Turkey, not Armenia. These tracks originate in Turkey and terminate into this locomotive storage shed two kilometers from the border. Until 1992, these metal rails were a primary link between neighbors, Armenia and Turkey. If you pinch and zoom in, you will see this teal green colored locomotive, resting in silence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On the front of the door is one white dove, a symbol of peace. There use to be another white dove facing its friend. When I was there in 2015 the one on the left was missing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I cannot stop thinking, even knowing, that with dialogue, not forgetting the past but working together in the present, replacing indifference with commonality, two beautiful nations, neighbors, can once again find and embrace peace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Go ahead friends on both sides of this invisible line that divides, call me crazy. Attack me for believing there is hope. Instead of wallowing in hatred, find and give to what unites rather than what divides. It takes far less effort too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These are heavy times all around the world...Sri Lanka, mass migration, continuing wars, increasing poverty, political anguish, just to mentioned only a few. Do we enjoy sustaining unpleasantness? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By finding understanding, solutions, we grow into a better state of being for all. Maybe even peace.
