Swipe - Nature again calls us to answer; How do we find balance when the earth doesn’t need us?

In 2008 I pitched a story to @ナショナルジオグラフィック on rising food prices and how we can afford to feed ourselves - today our population is 7.4 billion. In 15-20 years, we will be 9 billion.

When heavy rains fell, levies broke along the Mississippi River, flooding the breadbasket of the world - the Midwest in the United States. I went to Iowa to understand why, when nature and environment shifts, commodity prices soar, causing food costs to rise globally...we are all interconnected. It impacted the lives of thousands - 13 people died in the floods in 2008, damages estimated at over $10 B.

How, when our planet reaches 9 billion fellow human beings, will we be able to feed ourselves? Affordably, in balance with nature?

The Mississippi flooded the south this year, repeating a cycle.

Photo 1: Some of you have asked, why am I starting these stories with a self portrait? I will explain later next week, there is a reason - Few planes were available during the flood in early July 2008. No drones yet. I was fortunate to find a pilot who had a WWII Fairchild trainer to fly over Oakville, Iowa, and a Snoopy helmet.
