In 15-20 years, we will be 9 billion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When heavy rains fell, levies broke along the Mississippi River, flooding the breadbasket of the world - the Midwest in the United States. I went to Iowa to understand why, when nature and environment shifts, commodity prices soar, causing food costs to rise globally...we are all interconnected. It impacted the lives of thousands - 13 people died in the floods in 2008, damages estimated at over $10 B. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How, when our planet reaches 9 billion fellow human beings, will we be able to feed ourselves? Affordably, in balance with nature? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Mississippi flooded the south this year, repeating a cycle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo 1: Some of you have asked, why am I starting these stories with a self portrait? I will explain later next week, there is a reason - Few planes were available during the flood in early July 2008. No drones yet. I was fortunate to find a pilot who had a WWII Fairchild trainer to fly over Oakville, Iowa, and a Snoopy helmet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo 2: (Swipe) Brian, Cindy and Colt Wiegand go by boat over their flooded fields, surveying the damage to their crops and home.
