This all-male section, with music by Robert Starer, is set on what Graham called a Socratic island. “Everybody has their own say about a different topic,” said the dancer Lorenzo Pagano. “And the topic is the ball.” (Which they try not to drop, but, hey, it happens.) Janet Eilber, the company’s artistic director, felt it had aged enough to be reconsidered. “15 years ago, it was still kind of ‘those old dances,’” she told the #nytimes writer @giadk.
