I don’t even know where to start to talk to you about sleep - but I know that last week I received so much feedback about my dark room and speaking about my sleep problems that I thought I would try to explore the subject... . Let’s start with a few things I have learned: . Sleeping issues can go unnoticed for years. For years I just though I was “an early riser” but when I started looking closer, I realized I would be sleeping a five hour night on a regular basis. . When you’re used to running on empty, you don’t realize that you are. You get used to having crazy sugar & caffeine cravings (your body needs it to keep moving because it is so exhausted and sugar gives a spike of energy)(hello weight problems!) to have debilitating mood swings (the first thing that lack of sleep impacts is your mental health) and giant crashes where you just sit there and look in the distance like an empty shell. Worse - you can never really rest because your body is in high alert all the time. . The stress created by that vicious cycle can make a huge mess in your body. I won’t go into this here - we know stress is the root of most diseases. . I remember my sister telling me it was so weird I was not suffering from jet lag. And “How did I do it?” Well now I know. It’s not that I was not - it’s that I had completely lost touch with what it means to FEEL RESTED. I just kept going even if I was losing myself in the process. . So, I guess the first thing, if you want to explore your sleep is to ask yourself if you wake up feeling rested. When I am not sleeping well, i wake up with my brain already rushing and planning and solving problems (I used to think that was cool 😅). When I have slept well, i wake up not even knowing where I am, in a truly happy haze that take a few lovely minutes to dissipate. . All right, tell me if you want to know more, because sleep is a big subject and I am quite passionate. But my theory is that if Donald Trump was sleeping well - well he would be Barack Obama 😂 - I just mean that the internal peace you feel when you sleep is SO important that it could literally change nations if we knew how to honor it instead of looking down on it 🙏」4月3日 0時30分 - garancedore
