When Picasso unveiled Guernica in 1937 after the bombing of the Basque town in Northern Spain, the artist sent the painting on a world tour to raise money for the Spanish Republican cause. Alongside his masterpiece, he planned to display a series of etchings for sale called “The Dream and Lie of Franco” or “Sueño y mentira de Franco”, the artist’s first overtly political work.
