Residents of tight-knit Beauregard, Ala., are just beginning to sort through what is left of their homes after a large tornado—which killed 23 people ranging from 6 to 89 years old—tore through the area on March 3. Neighbors are continuing to search through debris for belongings now scattered in the grass and among the trees, writes photographer @bryananselm. Each foundation that just days ago held a family home now only contain personal effects that are chaotically strewn over crumbled building materials and shredded insulation. Some homes had their walls peeled open or their roofs cleanly picked up, leaving the interiors virtually untouched. Others shredded into splinters. In these photographs, insulation is scattered in trees and a refrigerator's contents are dumped onto a kitchen floor. Read more, and see more pictures, at the link in bio.
