In the Syrian desert outside Baghouz, a woman holds her baby after being screened by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces on Feb. 25. She was one of hundreds of civilians who, in a series of late February mass evacuations, fled the last sliver of the country’s territory still held by ISIS. The exhausted evacuees, who traveled in dozens of trucks that typically transport sheep, told @apnews that food had begun to run low within the ISIS-controlled area, and that medicine and water were in short supply.
