The bathroom of a destroyed home is seen in Beauregard, Ala., on March 4, one day after a tornado left at least 23 people dead in Lee County. The twister, which touched down around 2:20 p.m. local time and had estimated 170 mph winds, tore down trees and utility poles, injured dozens of people and separated several families, authorities said. It was the deadliest in the U.S. in nearly six years, according to the National Weather Service. At least three children were among the fatalities, a county coroner tells TIME.
