Swizz Beatz has bridged the worlds of hip-hop and contemporary art. Over the past 20 years, the music producer and his wife Alicia Keys have built one of the great American art collections, and Swizz, a.k.a. Kasseem Dean, has become an important advocate for artists of color. As he began collecting more seriously, @スウィズ・ビーツ and @アリシア・キーズ refocused their purchases on living artists, especially African-American artists who are the primary focus of what he now calls @TheDeanCollection. The goal of the collection has been nothing less than to “change the climate” of the art world, to shift the color of the artists on the walls of galleries and museums, which for most of history have been reserved for white men. “Because who else is going to do it?” he said. Swizz recently sat down with the arts editor of @tmagazine, M.H. Miller, to talk about his collection and connection to contemporary art. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
