Balabac, Philippines has had a fatal crocodile attack every year since 2015. Some people are ready for revenge. “I wanted to blow the crocodile up,” said Efren Portades, who intended to use dynamite. #Crocodiles are a fact of life in #Balabac. Their numbers are increasing even as the human settlements near them keep growing. That means more encounters between people and crocodiles. After a fisherman’s body was recently found half eaten by a crocodile, the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center visited the town to capture the animal. But apprehending the crocodile was not a task Salvador Guion, the head of the crocodile rescue team, relished, and not everyone in Balabac was happy about the capture. “Our crocodiles are kind,” said Segundo Rapales. “Just don’t disturb them.” #nytimes reporter Aurora Almendral visited Balabac as the crocodile was captured.
