You don’t have to be a botany expert to figure out what it means when somebody sends you a rose. Every year on Feb. 14, millions of people exchange the flower to express their #love. An estimated 250 million roses were produced for #ValentinesDay in 2018, according to the Society of American Florists. And Kenya—where these photographs were made in recent days as workers picked and packaged roses at Wildfire Flowers in Naivasha, outside Nairobi—is one of the largest suppliers of cut #flowers to the European Union, according to the Kenya Flower Council. But the rose’s life as a symbol didn’t begin with romance. Read more about why we give roses on Valentine's Day—and what the #? really means—at the link in bio.
