Islamic State militants cornered in their last foothold in eastern #Syria fought back with suicide car bombs, snipers and booby traps this week, slowing an advance by Kurdish fighters under the cover of U.S.-led coalition airstrikes according to Kurdish news agencies and a Syrian war monitor, @apnews reports. It's unclear how many ISIS fighters are still holding out and whether civilians remain inside. Some 20,000 people have fled fighting in the past few weeks, overwhelming camps in the northeast, the Associated Press adds.
