North Korea and South Korea are expected to inform the International Olympic Committee of their ambitions to co-host the 2032 Olympics during a meeting in Switzerland on Feb. 15. South Korea chose Seoul for the planned bid on Feb. 11; #NorthKorea has not yet announced its desired host city, though Pyongyang is expected. U.S.-led sanctions against the North would present significant challenges to hosting an Olympics in the country. Feasibility is dependent on the North's denuclearization plans, which will be discussed during the upcoming summit between Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump in Vietnam. #Sports diplomacy is not new in the region: in 2018, the North sent athletes and a delegation (including Kim's sister) to the Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
