Known for her monumental, powerful #canvases bursting with #colour, Gillian Ayres was born #OnThisDay in 1930. One of the leading exponents of the radical developments in #abstract #painting dominating British #Art in the late 1950s and 1960s, she focused directly on the #paint surface, texture, #scale and #colour. This vibrant #ochre work from 1961 will be offered at #auction as part of Made in Britain on 20 March – on view to the public in our #London #galleries from Friday 15 March.
