The war in Yemen continues to take its toll with up to 50,000 believed dead. It has created the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and turned much of the country into a wasteland, including the 2500-year-old capital of Sana'a. I took this photograph of the city's World Heritage-protected old town in 2005 and understand that many of its 6000 unique 11th century buildings have been reduced to rubble thanks to indiscriminate shelling by Saudi Arabian pilots dropping American-made bombs. The prospect of the US suspending involvement in the Yemen conflict, as seen in the Senate's recent resolution, or even of a possible cease fire, seems to be a sad case of “too little, too late” to save this ancient land and its people. #sanaa #sana #yemen #yemencrisis #worldheritagesite #arabiannights
